The "Korean Leaguers" have started their best-scorer battle in the English Premier League (EPL). After Son Heung-min (31, Tottenham) achieved his ambition of being the "EPL top scorer," Hwang Hee-chan (27, Wolverhampton) entered the race, sparking a scoring rankings rivalry that didn't seem possible for an Asian player.
Son Heung-min and Hwang Hee-chan scored their eighth and sixth league goals, respectively, in the 10th round of the 2023–24 Premier League. In terms of goals scored, Son Heung-min is behind Manchester City's Er ling Haalan (first place, nine goals). Myself and Hwang Hee-chan tied for fifth. Despite the youth of the league, this is the first time Korean players have appeared in the "top 5" of the EPL scoring charts.
November 11 will see the two face off. The announcement that two national team teammates will face off against one another in the Premier League has piqued the interest of many soccer fans. Anxiety is already high for the first game of the season—who will score?
