Vietnam's President Bo Van Truong, regarded as the 'second in command' of the country, has abruptly resigned just one year into his tenure. The Communist Party of Vietnam's Central Committee accepted Truong's resignation during an emergency meeting, following his admission of violating party regulations. Truong, who assumed office at 52, had a term set until 2026 but did not complete it. Previously holding the position of the party's permanent secretary, he was closely aligned with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. The specific reasons behind Truong's resignation, beyond party regulation violations, were not disclosed. However, speculation suggests it could be linked to Vietnam's anti-corruption campaign, a key focus under Trong's leadership.

This unexpected departure echoes the resignation of Truong's predecessor, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, due to misconduct among senior officials. This succession of resignations hints at possible power struggles within the Communist Party.

Vietnam's National Assembly has convened a special session to approve the party's decision on Truong's resignation, drawing attention to the forthcoming reshuffle in the country's top leadership positions. Truong's resignation underscores the complexities within Vietnam's political landscape and raises questions about the future trajectory of the country's governance.
