In a significant policy shift, outgoing US President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to use long-range American missiles to strike targets deep within Russian territory. This decision, confirmed by US officials, marks a notable escalation in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

The authorization comes as thousands of North Korean troops have been deployed to support Moscow’s war effort, raising concerns about a dangerous new phase in the war. The Biden administration’s decision follows a familiar pattern of initially refusing Ukraine’s requests for advanced weaponry, only to later approve them amid increasing pressure from Kyiv.

The long-range missiles, known as Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), can strike targets up to 300 kilometers away, significantly extending Ukraine’s reach. This move is expected to intensify the conflict, as it allows Ukraine to target critical infrastructure and military installations deep within Russia.

The decision has sparked a range of reactions, with some viewing it as a necessary step to support Ukraine’s defense, while others fear it could lead to further escalation and potential miscalculations. As the conflict continues to evolve, the international community watches closely, hoping for a resolution that avoids further bloodshed and instability.
