The UK Space Agency has signed a new deal with NASA that will allow more British astronauts to join missions to the International Space Station (ISS) and beyond.

The UK will contribute to the costs of operating and maintaining the ISS, which will continue until at least 2030. The UK will also have access to NASA’s Orion spacecraft, which will carry humans to the Moon and Mars.

The agreement is part of the UK’s goal to become a leading space nation, with a thriving space sector that supports the economy, science, and innovation. The UK Space Agency said the deal will create new opportunities for British companies and researchers to work with NASA and other international partners on cutting-edge space projects.

The UK Space Agency expects the first British astronaut to fly to the ISS under the new arrangement in the mid-2020s. The UK is also planning to launch its own national astronaut programme, which will select and train new British astronauts for future missions.
