The Professional Game Match Officials Limited(PGMOL) acknowledged an error in the Spurs vs. Liverpool match on 30 September 2023. The PGMOL is the body responsible for refereeing games in English professional football. During the first half of the game, Luis Diaz scored a goal for Liverpool.
However, the goal was canceled. The referee called an offside for Liverpool. The Video Assistant Referee(VAR) checked for the situation, but the referee still decided that the goal was an offside.
The VAR, Darren England's mistake disappointed Liverpool fans. Liverpool fans, so-called "The Kops," wildly argued on social media about this issue. Kops are famous for their huge love for football and it seemed as though they would never back their arguments until they get an official error check.
Inasmuch as the 35th minute, Diaz's goal became so controversial, that the PGMOL decided to go over the situation again. Just a few hours ago, the decision was made and an official article was uploaded on their official homepage acknowledging the serious error made in the game.
Many Korean Liverpool fans were very mad about this incident. The most loved comment on the Liverpool fan page was, "그럼 뭐 어쩔건데, 승점 복구해줄것도 아니잖아 진짜 심판 꼬라지" meaning "What are you going to do, it's not like you're going to recover the points. What a refree[in a sarcastic way]."
