The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) has unveiled a series of innovative measures set to redefine the landscape of the sport, with the introduction of cutting-edge systems slated for the upcoming 2024 season. Among these advancements are the highly anticipated Automatic Ball-Strike System (ABS), a meticulous pitch clock, and provisions for overtime play. This strategic move mirrors a trend already initiated by Major League Baseball (MLB) in the U.S., which successfully implemented similar reforms during the 2023 season to significantly curtail game durations.

A noteworthy addition to KBO's repertoire is the ABS, colloquially referred to as the "robot referee." Functioning as an autonomous adjudicator, this system utilizes state-of-the-art technology, with stadium-installed cameras meticulously tracking the ball's trajectory and impact point in real time. The ABS seamlessly determines the strike-ball scenario and transmits the decision to the on-field umpire through a dedicated receiver and earpiece. The umpire, thus informed, promptly renders the decision.

This technological marvel holds promise, particularly in its potential to mitigate contentious debates surrounding strike decisions, streamline game durations, and fortify the overall fairness of the sport. Nevertheless, there looms a shadow of concern over the system's perceived incompleteness and its apparent lack of rigorous validation through a comprehensive verification process.

As the KBO boldly embraces these advancements, the realm of baseball witnesses a transformative shift towards a more streamlined, efficient, and technologically driven future. The success of these measures is poised to not only redefine the fan experience but also influence the global discourse on the convergence of technology and tradition within the realm of professional sports.
