Female corpse mutilation murder case in Busan

7 June 2023

By Changwon(Luke) Choi

On May 26th–27th, in Geumjeong-gu, Busan, a 23-year-old woman, Jeong Yoo-Jeong, murdered a woman in her 20s who had no connection with her and then mutilated and abandoned the corpse.

Jeong Yoo-Jung signed up for a tutoring part-time job app to pretend to be a parent with a third-grade middle school child and posted in the app saying that she was looking for an English tutoring teacher for her child.

On May 24th, a woman answered; however, later she canceled due to the long distance. However, Jeong Yoo-Jung kept asking for it—at least a trial lesson—and a woman accepted it.

Jeong Yoo-Jung told a woman that she would send her child to the woman’s house, and on May 26th, around 6 p.m., she wore a middle school uniform that she bought online, hid the weapon, and went ahead to the woman’s house. After she arrived, she knew that the woman was living alone, so she killed her using a weapon and mutilated the corpse. After that, Jeong Yoo-Jung put some parts of a mutilated corpse in her suitcase.

On May 27th, at around 3 a.m., Jeong Yoo-Jung called a taxi and headed to the river nearby, throwing the corpse that was in the suitcase there. The taxi driver saw Jeong Yoo-Jung going into the woods with the suitcase, which seemed suspicious, so he reported it to the police station.

On May 29, an arrest warrant review was held at the Busan District Court, and Jeong Yoo-Jung was arrested.
