On October 31st, at the Seoul Central District Court, a trial was held for Chun Woo-won, the grandson of former President Chun Doo-hwan, on charges related to drug administration.
On March 17th, Chun Woo-won caused a sensation by administering drugs during a live broadcast on his YouTube channel. Subsequently, in September, he was indicted without detention by the prosecution for the use of substances including MDMA, LSD, Ketamine, and marijuana.
During the trial on the 31st, Chun Woo-won admitted to all of the prosecution's allegations, leading to the trial's conclusion in just 14 minutes. Ultimately, Chun Woo-won was sentenced to three years in prison.
He stated, "I now fully grasp how perilous and alarming the influence of drugs can be on one's judgment," and added, "I humbly request tolerance, I am committed to becoming a positive contributor to society."
In stark contrast to his grandfather, former President Chun Doo-hwan, who persistently denied and evaded responsibility for his transgressions, Chun Woo-won demonstrated a commendable gesture by extending his apologies to the victims and society on behalf of his grandfather.
For that reason, a significant number of supporters of Chun Woo-won attended the court proceedings, offering their words of encouragement.
